Grants Coordinator

Position Overview:  
The Grants Coordinator is responsible for preparing excellent proposals and supporting documents that will help Christopher House secure funding from corporate, foundation, and public sources. This position is also critical in supporting the Chief Development Officer’s efforts to strategize and prioritize to expand the grants portfolio. The Grants Coordinator reports to the Chief Development Officer.

Information about the main areas of responsibility follows:

1. Grant writing and prospecting

  • Prepare excellent proposals, reports, and supporting documents to help Christopher House secure funding from corporate, foundation, and public sources
  • Construct documents that reflect a deep awareness of the audience and speaks to the reader’s motivations for supporting the agency
  • Write documents that reflect an awareness of the reader’s level of familiarity with the agency and the field (human service, early childhood education, youth programs, etc.)
  • Translate data into readable, accessible format
  • Create compelling documents that balance hard data and anecdotal storytelling
  • Actively seek new funding opportunities and conduct research to evaluate fit
  • Remain current on funding opportunities from various sources
2. Processes
 
  • Adhere to (and improve) existing proposal completion timeline that ensures all necessary actions are taken to create and submit excellent proposals and reports ahead of deadline
  • Continually seek to enhance processes by identifying efficiency and effectiveness solutions
  • Maintain accurate records in Raiser’s Edge
  • Maintain accurate donation forecasts and path to goal plans for the fiscal year

3. Internal relationship management

  • Ensure that actions necessary to secure grants are taken by staff, board members, and other supporters by communicating with the Chief Development Officer
  • Build relationships with Christopher House direct service staff to ensure the development department has consistent access to up-to-the-minute program information
  • Coordinate with fiscal department to ensure agency maintains accurate and detailed budgets for proposals and reports

  • Enjoys gathering and synthesizing information into clear, compelling documents
  • Will have:
    • Bachelor's Degree with English, journalism, or writing-intensive major preferred
    • 2-4 years professional experience
    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
    • Strong project management skills--with ability to backwards plan based on deadlines
    • Strong research skills and ability to synthesize information into clear, compelling documents
    • Ability to prioritize and manage laterally and upward to achieve results
  • Will be:
    • Comfortable writing in a collaborative environment
    • Adept at integrating feedback into drafts 
  • Experience with proposal writing a plus
  • Experience with philanthropy research tools a plus
  • Experience with budgets a plus
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends on rare occasions

Compensation and Benefits:

The compensation package will be competitive with similar organizations. The salary range is $35,000-$40,000.  After a probationary period, Christopher House offers health, dental, and vision insurance.
